In one sentence

PDFLabz processes your PDFs in your browser — we don’t see them, store them, or sell anything about you.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy describes how PDFLabz (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles personal data when you visit our website or use our PDF tools. By using the service you agree to this policy.

2. Data we collect

a. PDF files you process

For tools that run entirely in your browser (Merge, Split, Compress, Watermark, Rotate, PDF→JPG, PDF→Word, OCR, Edit), your file never leaves your device. We do not receive, store, or look at it.

For AI-powered tools (Chat with PDF), the document text is sent to the AI provider configured by the site administrator (e.g. Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, Google Gemini) so the model can answer your questions. We do not store that text on our servers beyond the duration of the chat session.

b. Account data (if you sign up)

Email address, hashed password, optional name. We use this only to authenticate you and let you save preferences.

c. Technical data

IP address (for rate limiting and abuse protection), browser type, operating system, referrer URL, language preference. Stored in standard server logs for up to 30 days.

d. Usage analytics

Anonymous, aggregated counts of which tools are used and how often. We use this to prioritize improvements. Counts are not tied to individuals.

3. How we use the data

  • To provide the service you requested.
  • To prevent abuse, fraud and denial-of-service attacks.
  • To improve and prioritize features.
  • To communicate with you about your account (only if you signed up).
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your data for behavioral advertising, profiling for marketing, or sale to third parties.

4. Sharing & third parties

We share data only with the limited set of providers needed to run the service:

  • Hosting — our web host runs the application servers.
  • AI providers — text snippets you send to Chat with PDF are processed by the configured AI vendor (see their privacy policies for details).
  • Payments — if you purchase a Pro plan, payment data is handled by Stripe; we never receive your full card number.
  • Analytics — if Google Analytics or AdSense are enabled by the site admin, those services may set cookies as described in their own policies.
  • Law enforcement — when legally compelled, we comply with valid court orders.

5. Cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies for session management, language preference and CSRF protection. If advertising or analytics are enabled by the site administrator, additional non-essential cookies may be set; you can refuse those via your browser settings without losing the core functionality of the site.

6. Retention

  • Server logs: up to 30 days, then deleted.
  • Account data: kept until you delete your account.
  • Files: not stored on our servers (browser-side processing).
  • AI conversations: kept for the duration of your session and deleted afterwards.

7. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

If you live in the EU/UK, California or another region with comparable privacy laws, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your account and associated data.
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact privacy@pdflabz.com.

8. Security

We protect data with TLS encryption in transit, hashed passwords (bcrypt), regular security updates and least-privilege access controls. No system is 100% secure — but we treat user trust as our most important asset.

9. Children

PDFLabz is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us so we can delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect any changes. For material changes, we’ll notify you via email (if you have an account) or via a banner on the site.
